Theflowery meadowit is beautiful and easy to grow. It needs little care: no fertilization and very little water. The result will be a more or less low flowery meadow full of colors. Theflowery meadowit is an excellent ally of the environment: it does not require herbicides or polluting chemicals, is very low maintenance and provides plants useful for biodiversity. THEmixturesbest are those that combine the cultivation of annual plants andperennialso as to always have a rich and heterogeneous turf.

Flowery meadow, mixed seeds

To cultivate a flowery turf it is necessary to carry out the classic sowing of mixtures. With the sowing of the flowery meadow three different types of seeds are planted, these are:

Annual flowering species

Annual flowering species are sown in spring and bloom the same year as sowing. They have germination times ranging from just 5 days to 20 days depending on the species and the climatic trend.

Perennial flowering species

Theperennial flowering meadowsees herbaceous flowering species that are sown in spring / summer and bloom only in subsequent years. Germination times range from 15 days up to 20 - 25 days.

Species of grasses

The grass species such as Lolium perenne, Poa pratensis, Poa trivalis constitute theturfreal (the lawn), a lower cover that allows annual species to colonize the ground more easily.

These three types of seeds can be sown in different quantities based on the desired effect. Aflowery meadowit can be very useful for those who intend to adopt a hive and raise bees.

To obtain a good result, not only do you need to dose the three types of seeds listed above, you need to know the cultivation area: exposure, climatic trend, water availability, soil characteristics and above all which flowers grow spontaneously in the vicinity of our garden . By choosing the same type of seeds, you certainly have a guaranteed result.

Sowing the flowery meadow

Once you have identified the most suitable type of mixture, all you have to do is providesowing. The sowing period varies according to the chosen species.

For annual herbaceous mixtures, sowing is from mid-March to mid-July. Depending on the sowing and the species of the mixture of seeds, the beginning of flowering will take place between May and August. The end of flowering, as well as the beginning, will depend on the species and the climatic trend, the flowering will cease from mid-August to the beginning of December.

For annual flowering herbaceous mixtures, sowing can be done from mid-September to mid-November. Flowering, for annual species, will begin towards spring (April) of the year following that of sowing.

For thesowing of flowery turfyou can follow the instructions on how to sow a lawn:sow a lawn, even if the result is different and the starting seeds are different, a turf is sown in the same way as a flowery lawn!

Flowering meadow: seeds

Low flowery meadow
The lower flowery meadows develop in arid areas or areas that are not sunny, however there are some mixtures made not to exceed a height of 15 - 40 cm.

Flowery meadow to attract birds
If your desire is to have goldfinches, great tit and finches, you can choose a mix of about 15 varieties of annual flowers chosen for their nectar and color, to be mixed with perennial flowering herbaceous plants. The ideal height ranges from 40-100 cm, a low flowery lawn does not have many opportunities to attract birds to the garden.

Flowery meadow to attract butterflies
If you want to attract butterflies, choose mixtures with 10-15 varieties of perennial flowers such as dill, violet, zinnia, scabiosa and matricaria. The best flowers for attracting butterflies are fragrant and aromatic. The height of the lawn must oscillate between 30 and 80 cm.

Together with the butterflies you will attract other pollinating insects such as bees and bumblebees.
